📅 Week 1 – Introduction to Romans
Key Scripture (ESV)
Romans 1:1–15
Teaching Focus
- Paul’s calling and authority
- Purpose of Romans
- Unity in Christ
Commentary
Paul begins his letter by identifying himself as a servant of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that his life and mission belong fully to God. His calling as an apostle was not self-appointed but divinely assigned, reminding us that true purpose comes from surrender to God’s will. This sets a powerful tone for the entire letter.
The church in Rome was made up of both Jewish and Gentile believers, creating a unique cultural and spiritual dynamic. Differences in background and tradition could easily lead to division, but Paul writes to unify them through the truth of the gospel. He makes it clear that salvation is not limited to one group—it is available to all.
This opening section prepares us for a deep and transformative journey. Romans is not merely a theological explanation—it is a life-changing message. It reveals who we are apart from Christ, who we become in Christ, and how we are to live because of Him.
Notes
Romans lays the foundation for understanding salvation and Christian living.
Reflection
What is God calling me to surrender?
Application
Begin reading Romans daily.
Prayer
Lord, help me walk in Your calling.
📅 Week 2 – The Power of the Gospel
Key Scripture
Romans 1:16–17
Teaching Focus
- Gospel power
- Faith and righteousness
Commentary
Paul boldly declares that he is not ashamed of the gospel, even in a culture that often rejected it. This statement reflects a deep confidence in the truth and power of God’s message. It challenges believers today to stand firm and unashamed in their faith, regardless of opposition.
The gospel is described as the power of God for salvation. This means it is not just information or philosophy—it is transformational. It has the ability to change hearts, restore broken lives, and bring eternal hope to all who believe.
Paul explains that righteousness is revealed through faith from beginning to end. This truth shifts our focus away from human effort and toward divine grace. We are not saved by what we do but by trusting in what Christ has already done.
Notes
The gospel is God’s power to save.
Reflection
Am I bold in my faith?
Application
Share your faith this week.
Prayer
Give me courage to stand for truth.
📅 Week 3 – The Reality of Sin
Key Scripture
Romans 1:18–32
Teaching Focus
- Sin and consequences
- Rejecting truth
Commentary
Paul explains that God’s wrath is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. Sin is not simply a mistake—it is a rejection of God’s truth and authority. This shows us the seriousness of sin and its impact on our relationship with God.
When people suppress the truth, their thinking becomes darkened. They begin to exchange what is true for what is false, leading to a downward spiral of moral and spiritual decline. This passage highlights the consequences of turning away from God.
However, this truth is not meant to leave us hopeless—it is meant to point us to our need for salvation. When we understand the depth of sin, we begin to appreciate the greatness of God’s grace and the necessity of Christ.
Notes
Sin separates us from God.
Reflection
Where have I ignored God’s truth?
Application
Repent and realign with God.
Prayer
Lord, lead me in truth.
📅 Week 4 – All Have Sinned
Key Scripture
Romans 3:23
Teaching Focus
- Universal sin
- Need for grace
Commentary
Paul declares that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This statement removes any illusion of righteousness based on personal effort or comparison with others. It places every person on equal ground before God.
Recognizing this truth is essential because it reveals our need for a Savior. Without understanding our condition, we cannot fully appreciate the gift of salvation. It humbles us and prepares our hearts to receive God’s grace.
Yet this is not a message of condemnation—it is a message of hope. God does not leave us in our sin but provides a way through Jesus Christ. His grace is greater than our failure, and His mercy is available to all.
Notes
We all need grace.
Reflection
Do I fully depend on Christ?
Application
Thank God for His grace daily.
Prayer
Thank You for saving me.
📅 Week 5 – Justification by Faith
Key Scripture
Romans 5:1
Teaching Focus
- Justification
- Peace with God
Commentary
Justification means being declared righteous before God, not because of our works but because of our faith in Jesus Christ. This is one of the most freeing truths in Scripture, removing the burden of trying to earn God’s approval.
Through justification, we have peace with God. This peace is not temporary or conditional—it is a restored relationship that is secure in Christ. We move from being separated from God to being fully accepted by Him.
Living in this truth changes everything. Instead of striving to be accepted, we live from a place of acceptance. This brings confidence, joy, and a deeper sense of security in our relationship with God.
Notes
We are justified by faith.
Reflection
Am I resting in God’s grace?
Application
Trust God fully this week.
Prayer
Help me live in peace with You.
📅 Week 6 – Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
Key Scripture
Romans 6:4
Teaching Focus
- New life
- Freedom from sin
Commentary
Paul teaches that salvation is not only about forgiveness but also about transformation. When we come to Christ, our old life is buried, and we are raised into a new life. This signifies a complete change in identity.
This new life calls us to live differently. Sin no longer has authority over us, though we still face temptation. We are now empowered to choose obedience through the strength that God provides.
The beauty of this truth is that we are not trying to become new—we already are new in Christ. Our daily responsibility is to live out that identity, reflecting the transformation that has already taken place within us.
Notes
We are new in Christ.
Reflection
Am I living transformed?
Application
Walk in obedience daily.
Prayer
Strengthen me to live for You.
📅 Week 7 – The Struggle Within
Key Scripture
Romans 7:15
Teaching Focus
- Inner struggle
- Dependence on God
Commentary
Paul openly describes the internal struggle between the desire to do what is right and the pull of sin. This struggle is something every believer experiences, reminding us that we are not alone in our challenges.
Even though we struggle, we are not without hope. Victory does not come through our own strength but through Jesus Christ. He provides the power we need to overcome what we cannot conquer on our own.
This passage teaches us the importance of dependence on God. Instead of relying on our willpower, we must rely on His grace. It is through Him that we find strength, victory, and freedom.
Notes
Struggle is real, but victory is in Christ.
Reflection
Where do I struggle most?
Application
Rely on God’s strength.
Prayer
Help me overcome.
📅 Week 8 – Life in the Spirit
Key Scripture
Romans 8:1–2
Teaching Focus
- No condemnation
- Spirit-led life
Commentary
Paul declares that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. This powerful truth removes guilt and shame from our identity, allowing us to walk in freedom and confidence.
The Holy Spirit plays a central role in the believer’s life. He guides, empowers, and transforms us from the inside out. Living in the Spirit means depending on God’s power rather than our own strength.
This chapter reminds us that we are not alone. The Spirit intercedes for us, strengthens us, and assures us that we belong to God. This brings peace, assurance, and direction in our daily walk.
Notes
We are free in Christ.
Reflection
Am I walking in the Spirit?
Application
Spend time with God daily.
Prayer
Lead me by Your Spirit.
📅 Week 9 – God’s Sovereignty
Key Scripture
Romans 9:15–16
Teaching Focus
- God’s will
- Mercy
Commentary
Romans 9 emphasizes the sovereignty of God, reminding us that His plans are higher than our understanding. He operates according to His perfect will, not human expectations.
God’s mercy is not something we can earn or demand—it is something He freely gives. This truth challenges us to trust Him even when we do not fully understand His ways.
Surrendering to God’s sovereignty brings peace. When we trust that He is in control, we can rest in His plan, knowing that He is working all things for His purposes.
Notes
God is in control.
Reflection
Do I trust His plan?
Application
Surrender your worries.
Prayer
I trust Your will.
📅 Week 10 – Salvation for All
Key Scripture
Romans 10:9
Teaching Focus
- Confession
- Belief
Commentary
Paul explains that salvation comes through believing in Jesus Christ and confessing Him as Lord. This simple yet powerful truth makes salvation accessible to everyone.
The gospel is not limited by background, status, or past mistakes. It is available to all who call on the name of the Lord. This highlights God’s desire for all people to be saved.
Because of this, we are called to share the message of salvation. Faith comes by hearing, and we are part of God’s plan to bring that message to others.
Notes
Salvation is for everyone.
Reflection
Who can I share Christ with?
Application
Tell someone about Jesus.
Prayer
Use me to reach others.
📅 Week 11 – Living Sacrifices
Key Scripture
Romans 12:1–2
Teaching Focus
- Transformation
- Renewed mind
Commentary
Paul calls believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices. This means offering our entire lives to God in worship, not just moments or actions.
Transformation begins with the renewing of the mind. As we fill our thoughts with God’s truth, our lives begin to change from the inside out.
Living a surrendered life allows us to discern God’s will. It leads to a life that is pleasing to Him and impactful to others.
Notes
Live for God daily.
Reflection
What needs to change?
Application
Renew your thinking with Scripture.
Prayer
Transform me, Lord.
📅 Week 12 – Christian Living & Unity
Key Scripture
Romans 13–16
Teaching Focus
- Love
- Unity
Commentary
Paul concludes Romans by emphasizing practical Christian living. Love is the foundation of how believers interact with one another and the world around them.
Unity within the body of Christ is essential. Despite differences, believers are called to live in harmony, reflecting Christ’s love.
Our daily lives should reflect our faith. Through obedience, humility, and love, we demonstrate the reality of Christ to others.
Notes
Live in love and unity.
Reflection
Am I showing Christ to others?
Application
Practice kindness daily.
Prayer
Help me reflect You.
💙 From My Heart to Yours
Romans reminds us that no matter where we start, God’s grace meets us there. Whether you feel strong or struggling, His grace is sufficient. He meets you in your weakness and leads you into strength.
You are not defined by your past—you are defined by Christ. Your failures do not have the final say. God’s grace rewrites your story and gives you a new identity.
Stay rooted in His truth, and let your life reflect His grace. As you walk with Him daily, your life becomes a testimony of His power and love.
